My Tennis history
I started playing junior tennis at the age of around 9 in the Southport/Merseyside district. Coached professionally during my teen years. For that era I was unusual in that I adopted an extreme baseline playing style, later this became known as the “Western Grip and game”.  Sadly gave the game up at 17 to follow my dream of working with the Weather and moved to Wiltshire.

At 22 I was re-introduced back into the game by a national player/coach. This lead to several years of intensive and competitive play achieving a very good rating, winning many club and ratings tournaments. However, it was during this period that I gained most of my coaching experience, being involved with the County juniors squads and players at that time. spending many hours coaching and feeding players of all ages and standards.  Many thanks goes to one particular quality national and county coach who allowed me to spend endless hours on court (often under an indoor bubble) learning and practicing the modern game at a very high level.

From there I moved to the South West of England,  got married and had three lovely kids; During this time I played mainly league tennis (doubles); Took over the 1st team captaincy at Willand TC, where we’ve been very successful at/around division 2 in the Exeter and Devon leagues.  I’ve also played some regional tennis for Victoria park and competed in a number of tournaments for the MOD. I think I’ve won most of them but can’t take all the credit as I’ve always been fortunate enough to play with some great players.

In the summer of 2011 the club committee offered me the role of coach after they struggled to gain coaching consistency with the junior/coaching program. I accepted and went onto an intensive coaching course, with the PTR, which was followed by a skills assessment and a series of formal tests and exams. (see results above).

Since then I’ve gone on to introduce mini tennis locally for the Under 12’s to compliment an established over 12’s program. This includes regular fun competitions over a number of different age groups!  In a short space of time we now have a number of juniors competing in the leagues successfully up to Division 2.  Beyond the juniors, adult tennis coaching is becoming more popular at Willand. We have a Ladies morning and afternoon, plus number of adult and junior players having one 2 one coaching.

Hobbies and things
I hate writing and I don’t pretend to be any good at it, but I do love skiing and tennis!
